Art has always been part
of my life. My earliest works were on display on the hall walls of our
home, unfortunately this venue was not looked on kindly. This forced
me underground, actually it was under the family dining room table.
It was here I spent hours creating delightful pictures on the underside
of the table. The feel of the crayons dragging across a wood surface was
much more exciting than mere paper, plus much more permanent!
My mother always drew little illustrations to embellish the poetry she wrote and I have old photos of her brothers showing off their landscape paintings. Having a brother, Ramon Rice, who became a well known artist in Santa Fe was most certainly an inspiration. I don't know if artistic ability is inherited, but am sure exposure to art at an early age is a plus. Alas, life has a way of involving us with careers that separate us from our original dreams. About 1990 I decided to get back into my art. I am not as disciplined as I should be but have spent many happy hours producing paintings. About 1992 I got my 1st computer. My 1st graphics program was Corel Draw 2. Later my son gave me Fractal Design Painter 2, and was wowed at what it could do. The purchase of these two programs changed my life. Painter is now owned by Corel. I am now using Painter 6. For vector (objects) art I use XaraX |
