1. Lace

2. Trellis

3. Lace 2

4. Leaves and gold

This is a sampler with 4 of the transparent Looks I created
in Painter 6. to be used with the new Looks in the Materials Pallet

See a application of Lace below.

1. Lace was started in Xara2 by making circles which were sliced and rotated. I created a transparent bitmap and pasted it into Painter6.  I then transferred it into the objects folder for future use. Later I thought it would make a neat Look.

2. Trellis was created by using a transparent layer, I then turned on the Grid to use as a guide I used a black solid straight lines to create the design. I then turned Preserve Transparency and filled it with a lighter color.

3. Lace 2, like #1 was started in Xara2 and pasted into Painter.

4. Leaves and gold. 1st I filled the canvas with black, then created a transparent layer. I then used the Kaleidoscope plug-in painting under it on the transparent layer. After I liked what I saw I committed the kaleidoscope and dropped it. I then used color select sampling on the black background, inverted it and floated it.

To create a transparent look it has to be associated with a pattern.

1. Create a transparent layer, paint a design or object. With the layer selected and preserve transparency checked, go to patterns, capture pattern.

2. Keep the transparent layer selected, choose Pens/ Pattern Pen Masked. On the Brush Pallet, right click on the word Brush and choose Brush Looks/ Look Designer. Drag your brush across the Look designer canvas, don't worry if it looks wobbly. Choose save, using the same name as you did for the pattern.

**Hint, to keep the Painter libraries from getting bloated it is a good idea to create your own personal directory or folder to put all the patterns, papers etc. you have created.  2nd benefit about doing this, is you don't loose everything if you have to re-install Painter or upgrade it.

This uses #1 Lace above
